Bud & Sis ~ Huggable Nursery Pets ~ (Raggedy Look- Alikes)
The AMERICAN TOY & NOVELTY COMPANY was responsible for introducing Buddy & Sis...Hugable Nursery Pets...in the late 1930's to early 1940's
Raggedy Look-Alikes, with facial features "similar" to those of earlier Molly-'Es Raggedy dolls. It was thought by some that Molly Goldman may have had a hand in their creation .
These dolls were made in the likeness of little "rag-a-muffins", from fabrics you might pull together from your "rag-bag". Their blouses and/or shirts consisted of the bodice being that of the torso of the doll with attached sleeves of matching fabric, sewn to the doll. Ann's skirt and Andy's pants were removeable.Unusual prints and stripes were mixed and matched including thier legs and feet. Their faces were made from "shiny" oil-cloth; and facial features were printed on. Usually large white circles for the eyes with smaller black "pupils", with the "pie-shaped" slice similar to Molly-'Es. The triangular nose was small with printed "stitches" out-lining it; small straight eyebrows; Hair made from various shades of reddish-brown.
Buddy and Sis were sold as late as the 1950's.
